Veterans' Day! Here's Something We All Can Do

Nazareth's Bill Coker passes along this idea. It's a pretty good one, so he must have stolen it. When making out your Christmas card list this year, please include the following:
A Recovering American soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue, NW
Washington,D.C. 20307-5001
Update: Believe it or not, and as nice as it sounds, an anonymous commenter warns this is a scam. In fact, Snopes claims postal officials won't even accept this kind of mail because of security concerns. Paranoid bureaucrats apparently think we'll slip a bomb or anthrax into a Christmas card. Everyone is just a little nutz.

PLEASAE DO NOT DO THIS. It is an act of kindness that will be thrown away at the gate. For security reasons, the military does not allow anonymous recipients.

In stead go the www.LetsSayThanks.com
and Xerox Corp who sponsors the site will get the cards where they need to go.

Thank you for supporting our troops It means a lot to the soldiers and their families at home

The word I hear is that the hospitals won't deliver such anon mail because they can't be certain some cretin hasn't sent a nasty-gram is the guise of a holiday greeting.

Seem reasonable.

When I was in the service, churches came together to send Christmas cards. They gave credibility for their members' anonymous letters/cards. Today post-9/11, I understand there are more effective ways to say thanks and support our troops. This is why we give to the USO. Having seen first hand the work they do, it is well worth it for homesick soldiers and sailors.

Oh sorry, missed another way to plug the USO. They take small contributions too. So don't wait till once a year to support those who voluntarily support our country. Donate often, till we can bring them all home.
